Back in Mermaid mode
Soon I’m off on a sailing ship! Me and a couple of friends signed up to go with Statsraad Lehmkuhl on a trip to Shetland, and I’ve been in Mermaid Mode for weeks prior to this.
Mermaids is my number one favorite thing to draw. I have drawn a lot of mythical creatures, but mermaids and sirens is by far the most interesting, and the ones with the most mesmerizing stories to go with them. Deep sea creatures and pirates too. Some of my favorite books from when I was a kid where “20 000 leagues under the sea” and “Treasure Island”, and of course my first meeting with Ariel from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” was instant fandom.
The Little Mermaid was one of the first creatures I drew over and over again as a child, and the movie sparked my Disney fascination. People did this for a living!
The trip with Statsraaden will probably spark some new creations, my sketchbook was the first thing I packed actually. I already have the sketches and layout for a mermaid story, maybe this is the catalyst that will fuel that project again.
Now I’ll continue listening to “Siren Song” from Mermaid Kiss and finish up the illustration so that she can move into my gallery at Bryggen before I leave!
